The Online Mode

In online mode you are going to transcribe an audio file you get automatically. As long as you keep transcribing your proceedings are saved temporary in your web browser. After you finished your work, you are going to send your transcript to a server. If there is another job available, you get the next audio file automatically.

The workflow

The general workflow is as described:

  1. Log in to the Online Mode.
  2. Use one of the editors for transcription. See the chapter of your preferred editor to learn about using it.
  3. If exists: Fill in the feedback form and/or the comment form (optional) in the overview window.
  4. Click on the "SEND TRANSCRIPTION" button (default) or on one of the colorized buttons with stars in it.
  5. The transcription will be sent to the server. If there are any more transcription jobs, you will get a new audio file automatically.
  6. Start at 2. again. If you do not want to continue you can quit OCTRA.
As long as you are transcribing your proceedings are saved automatically in your browser. If you reload, reopen the page you can continue your work if you use the same browser on the same computer as before.

Specific GUI Elements

The top section

  • 1): The name of the database and the free jobs.
  • 2): The name of the audio file and context description.
  • 3): The transcription prompt (if exists).

The bottom section

On the bottom you see a comment field and colorized buttons. In the comment field you can type in a comment related to the actual transcription. The colorized buttons do two jobs: rate the current audio file and transcription and submit it.

The overview

In online mode the overview window contains an additional section that allows you to give feedback about the current transcription and send it to the server.

If filling in the feedback form is optional you can trigger the colorized buttons using shortcuts: CTRL + 1, CTRL + 2, CTRL + 3 (from top to bottom).
